  • 2011 Top Performers in Key Quality Measures
  • Message from Joel Taylor, Administrator, Citizens Baptist:

I am pleased to announce that Citizens Baptist was named one of the nation's top performers on key quality measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America, this achievement is based on data reported about evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care and children's asthma.

Even more notable is that Citizens Baptist was one of only ten Alabama hospitals to receive the recognition and among only 405 hospitals nationally to earn the distinction of top performer on key quality measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. This recognition is a testament to our staff and physicians who have worked tirelessly to achieve both a high level of patient satisfaction and meet quality performance measures-two initiatives that are and will continue to be a top priority for Citizens.

As a top-performing hospital, we met two 95 percent performance thresholds. First, we achieved performance of 95 percent or above on a single, composite score that includes all the accountability measures for which we report data to The Joint Commission, including measures that had fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients. Second, we met or exceeded a 95 percent performance target for every single accountability measures for which we report data, excluding any measures with fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients. Citizens' was recognized for the following measures: heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.

Our hospital's attention to quality core measures in an ongoing process that requires teamwork and dedication by all of those involved in our patients' care. And for our staff and physicians, this is an honor and a validation that their continued focus and attention to core measures is resulting in positive clinical outcomes.

I hope you will join me in congratulating the staff and physicians of Citizens Baptist for their achievement as a Top Performer on key Quality Measures for 2010 and invite you to review The Joint commission's annual report "Improving America's Hospitals" accessible on The Joint Commission website at www.jointcommission.org.
